Holy Communion:

The Sacrament of Holy Communion is the third of the Sacraments of Initiation. Even though we are required to receive Communion at least once per year (our Easter Duty), and the Church urges us to receive Communion frequently (even daily, if possible), it is called a sacrament of initiation because, like Baptism and Confirmation, it brings us into the fullness of our life in Christ.

In Holy Communion, we are eating the True Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, without which “you shall not have life in you” (John 6:53).

Preparing for the Sacrament of Holy Communion:

Because of the intimate connection of the Sacrament of Holy Communion to our life in Christ, we must be free of any grave or mortal sin before receiving it, as St. Paul explained in 1 Corinthians 11:27-29. Otherwise, as he warns, we receive the sacrament unworthily, and we “eateth and drinketh damnation” to ourselves.

If we are aware of having committed a mortal sin, we must participate in the Sacrament of Confession first. The Church sees the two sacraments as connected, and urges us, when we can, to join frequent Confession with frequent Communion.

Making a Spiritual Communion:

If we cannot receive Holy Communion physically, either because we cannot make it to Mass or because we need to go to Confession first, we can pray an Act of Spiritual Communion, in which we express our desire to be united with Christ and ask Him to come into our soul. A spiritual communion is not sacramental, but prayed devoutly, it can be a source of grace that can strengthen us until we can receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion once again.

First Holy Communion Program

The First Holy Communion Program follows the guidelines of the Diocese of Orange. It is a two-year preparation program:

First Holy Communion – Year I: to study about the basic catechesis of the Christian life.

First Holy Communion – Year II: to deepen the understanding of the two Sacraments: Reconciliation and Eucharist. After two years, the students will solemnly celebrate the reception of these two Sacraments.

Part of the preparation for receiving the Sacraments includes Retreat days to provide a special time for prayer and more direct preparations. Specific schedule and details are provided at parents’ meetings.

Requirements for this program:

Year 1:

• 6 years of age and up
• Baptismal Certificate
• No more than 3 absences

Year 2:

• 7 years of age and up
• Year 1 Certificate of accomplishment
• Baptismal Certificate
• No more than 3 absences

Chương Trình Xưng Tội Rước Lễ Lần Ðầu

Chương Trình Giáo Lý Xưng Tội Rước Lễ Lần Ðầu được tổ chức theo qui định của Giáo Phận Orange. Chương Trình chuẩn bị được chia thành 2 năm:

Xưng Tội Rước Lễ I: Học hỏi những điều căn bản và khai tâm Kitô giáo.

Xưng Tội Rước Lễ II: Ðào sâu về hai Bí Tích: Bí Tích Hòa Giải và Bí Tích Thánh Thể. Sau 2 năm học hỏi, các em sẽ được long trọng lãnh nhận hai Bí Tích này.

Ðể tăng thêm hiệu quả và chuẩn bị, chương trình Giáo Lý có tổ chức những ngày Tĩnh Tâm, ngày lãnh nhận các Bí Tích và những chuẩn bị cần thiết cho việc lãnh nhận các Bí Tích. Chương trình và chi tiết được trình bày tại buổi họp phụ huynh

Ðiều Kiện để được vào chương trình:

Năm I:

• 6 tuổi trở lên
• Giấy Rửa Tội.
• Nghỉ học không quá 3 ngày 

Năm II:

• 7 tuổi trở lên
• Giấy chứng nhận đã học năm I
• Giấy Rửa Tội.
• Nghỉ học không quá 3 ngày
