Returning to the Church./Taking Another Look

Taking Another Look is:

  • a process sponsored by our parish to welcome-back-home Catholic adults who have been inactive for any reason whatever.
  • an opportunity to re-experience their church, their faith and their community.
  • completely non-judgmental.
  • a way to learn what has happened in the church in recent years.
  • an opportunity to rediscover and reconnect in a safe and accepting environment.

Sessions are held three times a year - 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Center.  Call for info at 846-3359.

Getting Your Marriage Blessed in the Church (sacramentaly validated) for couples who want the full blessing of the Church upon their marriage. Call any priest for info or an appointment (846-3359).

Annulments:
There are various kinds of annulments. From a simple "Lack of  Form" case to a "Formal Trial." Call any priest for info or an appointment (846-3359).

Lack of Form means that a Catholic person did not marry in an approved manner, namely before a priest or deacon. We commonly call that being married "out of the Church". A Formal Trial means that the marriage was recognized. The question here is whether one or the other entered the marriage with the proper intentions or maturity.

The Church recognizes the marriages of non-Catholics. When two people marry, neither of whom are Catholic, the Church recognizes the marriage, as long as both were free to marry, whether they married in a religious or civil ceremony.

One who is not Catholic may petition for an annulment without any obligation to become Catholic. The fact that he/she wants to marry a Catholic person is reason enough.

Lack of Form cases are usually easy to obtain. They just require a few documents.  Formal trials are quite different and may take as long as two years. Formal cases are not always successfully completed. The request in a formal trial case is for a finding of nullity. It is one thing to have a case, it is another to prove it. Yet most formal cases are granted.

One might ask "Why then be married by the Church"? Surely God knows the hearts of people. And God alone saves. Better to obey God than to obey men!

If anyone reading this needs information about his/her own situation you are welcome to e-mail us or call for an appointment with one of the priests at 714/846-3359.

    NEEDED: COMPANIONS FOR THE JOURNEY
Christian Initiation of Adults is a process of prayer and study, in which adults are initiated into the Catholic community and receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. Sponsors are companions to these adults and support them in their spiritual journey while also growing in their own faith.
