| St. Bonaventure Music
Ministries Music is an integral part of good liturgy. In addition to
Sunday Masses and special feast days Music Ministry touches virtually every aspect of
parish life providing music for reconciliation, first communion, baptism, confirmation,
funerals and weddings. The parish music program is service oriented and to that end all
music ministers are commissioned at Sunday liturgy each year in September.
Our six choirs provide music for five of our Sunday liturgies.
The Senior Choir sings at the 10:30 a.m.
Sunday Mass from mid-September to mid-June and for most special parish
liturgies. Open to
all adults, high school age and above, the Senior Choir sings SATB music in a
broad spectrum of styles, drawing on the works of great composers from early times to the
present day. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings, 7:30 to 9:30.
The Contemporary Choir rehearses at
4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoons in the Hall Conference Room and sings at the 5:30 p.m.
Sunday Mass. Open to all adults, high school age and above, this group sings year
'round and features the contemporary sound of guitars, electronic keyboard, woodwind
instruments and percussion. In addition to singers, anyone who plays a musical instrument
is encouraged to offer his/her talent.
Children's Choirs
The St. Bonaventure Singers is a group of boys and girls, grades 3
through 8 who rehearse on Wednesdays from 2:45 to 3:55 p.m. and sing at the 9:00 Mass on
Sunday mornings.
The Concert Choir is a talented group of 4th through 8th grade
children who rehearse on Wednesdays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and sing at the 9:00 Mass along
with the St. Bonaventure Singers and also for special occasions. Membership is based on
vocal ability, regular attendance and good conduct and is by invitation only. Children
in grades 4 and 5 must be in the St. Bonaventure Singers for one year to be considered for
membership in the Concert Choir.
TRAINING CHOIR FOR FIRST AND SECOND GRADERS
Do you know a first or second grader who likes to sing?
The purpose is to teach these young children, many of whom cannot yet read,
how to participate at Sunday Mass with the regular Youth Choir. They will have their own
special rehearsal day and time (Tuesdays at 2:45 to 3:30 p.m.) until the end of January,
and will sing occasionally at the 9:00 a.m. Mass with the regular Youth Choir.
In the first week of February these children will transfer to the regular
Youth Choir and rehearse on Wednesdays from 2:45 to 3:55 p.m., beginning on Wednesday,
February 3rd. They will sing most Sundays at the 9:00 a.m. Mass.
Rehearsals are on Tuesdays in the choir loft. Supervision is available from
3:30 to 4:00 for only those children who will attend Religious Ed class at 4:00
p.m. Children will be escorted to their classes.
ALL 1st and 2nd GRADERS WHO WOULD LIKE TO JOIN CHOIR MUST BE IN THIS NEW TRAINING CHOIR
UNLESS THEY SANG WITH THE REGULAR YOUTH CHOIR LAST YEAR.
The Children's Choirs sing from mid-September through mid-June.
Registration closes on February 1st each year and children who wish to join after that
date must wait until the following September.
The Spanish Choir sings year 'round at the
Spanish Mass each Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and rehearses on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 in Sr.
Bridget's Room. Membership is open to anyone who can sing in Spanish.
The Vietnamese Choir sings year 'round
at the Vietnamese Mass each Sunday at 3:30 p.m. and rehearses once each week usually on
Friday evenings. membership is open to anyone who can sing in Vietnamese.

Thankful for these rich cultural resources, our choirs join together for multi-cultural
liturgies on Thanksgiving Day, Confirmation and other special occasions.
At St. Bonaventure the main musical emphasis is singing by the assembled congregation.
We have a core group of well-trained cantors who provide musical leadership for the
assembly at all liturgical celebrations.
Concerts
In addition to singing for parish and occasional diocesan liturgies, our choirs offer
two concerts each year. All of our parish choirs participate in the Christmas Concert in
mid-December. The Spring Concert in mid-May features a major work and is accompanied by
orchestra.
