Cub Scouts Pack 227

To All St. Bonaventure Parishioners:

30 Individual Religious Emblems received by our Pack.

Promote the spiritual phase of Scouting, provide for a religious emblems program, provide a board of review to examine all candidates for religious emblems, and develop ways and means to communicate with Scouts of the Catholic faith in units of other chartered organizations in order to help them qualify for Catholic religious emblems. These religious emblems are:

Light of Christ- This emblem is given to Tiger Cubs and Cub Scouts (through Wolf rank) for advancement in spiritual growth and religious knowledge. It is the first of five religious emblems available to Catholic youth involved with Scouting.

Parvuli Dei- This is a Christian family emblem to recognize Cub Scouts and Webelos Scouts for advancement in religious knowledge and spiritual formation. With the help of parents or guardians, the boy becomes more aware of God's presence in his daily life, especially within his home and community.

The St. Bonaventure Pack won the following awards.

  • Gold Medallion Award
  • Pope Paul VI Award
  • Bishop Award
  • Golden Bow Award

The meaning/purpose of these awards is as follows:

GOLD MEDALLION AWARD

The Gold Medallion Award program is established to identify and recognize the outstanding Catholic Cub Scout Pack, Boy Scout Troop, and Venturing Crew in each of the fourteen Episcopal Regions of the United States. It is also intended to promote the National Catholic Committee on Scouting initiative to increase Scouting units, youth members, and adult leaders. National Gold Medallion winners epitomize those units that excel at providing youth with quality programs including religious activities, religious emblems participation, outdoor activities, and special events that encompass the religious, vocational, and educational aspects of Scouting under Catholic auspices.

 Pope Paul VI Award

Eligibility Unit must be chartered by a Catholic institution (parish, Knights of Columbus).  Purpose Cooperation, development, and program are the key words in the recognition of Catholic chartered units in earning the Pope Paul VI unit recognition award. The adult leadership responds to training not only in Scouting lores, but in training in the Catholic Scouter Development, and religious counseling. The Scouts in each Pack, Troop, Team, and Post respond by participating in the religious emblems program respective of their status in Scouting.

 Bishop Award

This was a special plaque given to our Pack recognizing us for having over 60% of our Cub Scouts have received Religious Emblems.

 Bronze Pelican Award

I would like to take this time to recognize June Fischer as our Pack winner for the Bronze Pelican Award.

"The Catholic Committee on Scouting for the Diocese of Orange provides the Bronze Pelican Award to men and women as recognition of their efforts in contributing directly to the spiritual nourishment of Catholic Boys and Girls in the Scouting movement.  The pelican has been used as a Liturgical symbol ever since the early days of Christianity.  It denotes the tender care of the young by the parent and the church and as such it is an appropriate symbol for those who give of themselves to the development of the boys and girls in the formation as Christian leaders."

 Golden Bow Award

The certificate for the Golden Bow award reads: "The Order of the Golden Bow

in support of Catholic Scouting is confirmed upon Pack 227 in Recognition of your outstanding contribution towards helping youth become better citizens through scouting."

The Golden Bow award is available to those units working toward the following goals:

1) organize more units in Catholic parishes and schools

2) a significant growth in Catholic youth scout membership

3) a strong emphasis on role model adult leadership

4) a quality scout program for all Catholic youth

We would like to recognize Lisa Williams and Debbie Doke for heading up the efforts to win these awards by supporting the Cub Scouts as Co-Religious Coordinators for the St. Bonaventure Cub Scouts, Pack 227.

 Very truly yours,

Manny Villalobos, Cub Master
